"Let's Have At It"

About the age of 5 year's old, my dad, since returning from serving in the U.S. Army had signed up for a night class, the class was drafting.  It turned out the class was cancelled due to lack of interest.  So with a strong curiosity, I took note of a shoebox my dad had stowed away up in my closet, it contained my dad's drafting tools.  One day I reached up to get a hold of this curious shoebox and in doing so, I fell, my parent's rushed to see what happened and in doing so they saw me using the compass and making circles, mom had said "Now we know what our son will grow up to become, an Architect", now my dad can live out his love of drafting through his son.  It wouldn't be until 1975, at the age of 13 year's while attending Boswell High School located in Fort Worth, TX, that I commenced my drafting schooling.  Their was the inspiration for my endeavor, a ranch-style balsa house the instructor had built; it was very detailed, there I knew this was to become my journey.  Throughout my business career in drafting, I've been in the company of great mentor's, such as Mr. James T. Gonzales, my Drafting Class Instructor at Glendale Community College, Glendale, CA, and Mr. Robert L. Earl Architect A.I.A. Emeritus, my business colleague, highly experienced in high-end estate’s with such clientele’s as Mr. Donald Trump & Mr. Rick Hilton, Real Estate Investor’s.  Both of these mentor's have willingly contributed their time, effort’s & energy in developing my skills that are much needed in this challenging profession.
Through the years, I've come to appreciate those around me, from CAD Leads to Project Directors & Managers, who have effortlessly taught me well & assisted further in broadened my horizons, all this from my initial beginning stemming back to that balsa house in 1975.  It never failed that through my upbringing, and throughout my career, I could always be found checking out job sites, Architectural Cues, etc., all while broadening my horizons.  In closing, I'm quite pleased how my career has turned out, though many bumps along the way, it's a field I'm very proud to speak of, especially to those future students, not only whom are involved with Architecture, but to all disciplines that play an important role of our ever developing drafting arena I've had the pleasure of being involved with for over 40 year's.
